Avoid these 5 skincare mistakes that cause premature aging

Many people want flawless, youthful skin that will seem ageless over time, and so they turn to glossy magazines, websites, and even friends for anti-aging skincare product recommendations and tips. While certain products can make one’s skin beautiful, they might be making mistakes in their skincare routine that could contribute to premature aging. So, it is important to avoid the following lapses to prevent lasting skin damage and skin diseases:

  1. Over-cleansing
Even though cleansing is an essential part of one’s daily skincare routine, doing it too often can damage the lipid barrier of the skin. Additionally, it is essential to choose the right cleanser and not just go for the cheaper, more easily available product. According to experts, one must select a gentle cleanser for their face as the facial skin tends to be thin and sensitive. Also, the cleanser should be applied not more than twice per day as over-cleansing tends to dry up the skin, making the fine lines prominent.
  2. Not getting enough sleep
Sleep is crucial for providing the body with the rest it needs. A good night’s sleep also helps the body repair and recover. So, sleep is crucial for the skin to recover too. When the body does not get adequate rest, one’s skin can feel tired and stressed, which could cause issues like acne, dry skin, and pale complexion, making one look older than they actually are. Losing out on sleep can also make one’s skill look dull.
  3. Not getting adequate hydration
It is important to keep the body adequately hydrated for one’s overall health. The same rule applies to the skin. Without adequate moisture in the skin pores, the skin’s elasticity can be ruptured, making the surface susceptible to dryness, irritation, and aging. According to some studies, good-quality skin consists of 10–20% of water, and if the body becomes dehydrated, the hydration levels can decline drastically. That is precisely why health professionals recommend having at least 6 to 8 glasses of water per day and more than that for people who engage in heavy workouts and exercises. One should also opt for overnight deep moisturizing to improve skin hydration.
  4. Not using sunscreen
According to several notable studies conducted on premature aging, about 70% of the signs of aging are brought on by skin being exposed to the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays. So, experts strongly recommend using sunblock or sunscreen whenever one steps outside, be it during winter or summer. Further, one should use sunscreen even if they plan to stay home, as UV rays could penetrate simple glass windows. Several studies have testified how applying sunscreen every day can help prevent skin diseases and problems like loss of elasticity, fine lines, and wrinkles. However, one should opt for a mineral-rich sunscreen, specifically one containing zinc, for healthy skin.
  5. Staring at the phone for long periods
With the advent of smartphones, almost everyone in this world has developed this bad habit of spending hours after hours straining their necks to stare down at their phones. One can develop tech-neck—a condition brought on by staring down at the phone, which can result in stiffness and soreness in the neck. The neck can show horizontal lines when someone keeps staring at their phone for extended periods. Additionally, it can lead to fine lines, double chin, early sagging of the face and neck, and early laugh lines. To prevent this kind of skin damage, experts suggest that people should look straight at their phones.

A faulty or neglectful skincare routine could be responsible for premature aging and signs like fine lines, wrinkles, and dry skin. So, one should avoid the above-mentioned mistakes for beautiful, glowing skin.
